Alda Merini is a reference point for me as a woman. As a poet and writer. As a person. Her sensitivity has something magical and otherworldly about it and, at the same time, something extremely concrete and close to everyone's life. She had the enormous ability to write poems that spoke a universal language, able to touch deeply the soul even of those who are not familiar with these forms of expression. And for me this is her first and immense strength.
What I would like to do today is guide you on a journey through a landscape that, if you don't know it, will surely leave you open-mouthed. Or at least that was the effect it had on me years ago when I discovered it. I'd like to tell you about Japanoise.
Ed Wood (born Edward Davis Wood Jr., 1924-1978) went down in history as "the worst director of all time". […] And yet… Yes, there is a gigantic "and yet", superbly portrayed in Tim Burton's film "Ed Wood", in which Johnny Deep plays this incredible character. Yes, for me the "and yet" can be summed up in two words: humanity and dreams.
Saturno Buttò is a Venetian artist born in 1957 in Portogruaro, with an irresistible aesthetic. Sacred and profane, mystical ecstasy and transgression, religion and fetish: with his incredible and extremely "classical" technique, in which the main reference is sacred art, Saturno Buttò builds on the materiality of the human body and face, so despised by the Christian tradition, which finds in it only temptation and sin.
If I may suggest where to start, begin with these "lighter" novels: L’inverno di Frankie Machine , L’ora dei Gentiluomini, but above all the trilogy dedicated to a fantastic character, Neal Carey: London Underground, China Girl, Nevada Connection .
I couldn't even say how many times I have listened to Silent Shout, the famous and wonderful album by The Knife. Nor could I say in how many different situations the notes of Marble House have accompanied me, or how many different emotions they have been the soundtrack to.
Jodorowsky needs no introduction. A visionary director, author of incredible films such as Santa Sangre, El Topo, La Montagna Sacra , but also a prolific writer, scholar of tarot, comic book author, actor, "psychomagician", a person of immense culture and wisdom, whom one often cannot fully understand
How often does the answer arrive before the question is even clear to us? How often must our reason come to a halt, reined in by the narrow confines of logic and intellect? And how far are we still able to come into contact with what we might call "intuition"?
Writing something about Atrax Morgue is extremely difficult for me. He is an artist whose deep worth has dug so far into me that talking about him feels almost sacrilegious. But I cannot fail to dedicate a pill to him, to his memory. Atrax Morgue is one of the leading artists of the Italian industrial scene and, I dare say, the leading one of the Italian power electronics scene. From the land of sun, pizza and mamma, we have exported one of the most extreme, controversial and disturbing musical projects ever produced.
Buber was a philosopher, but his writings held the beauty of poetry rather than the coldness of speculative reasoning. His teaching remains fundamental even today.
There are moments when reading Sylvia Plath is like being embraced by a friend. Others when it reopens wounds. Others still when it heals them. In her company, there are certainly never moments without emotion.
“ The most violent and repulsive comic ever drawn ” exists. The remarkable thing is that its author has been considered by The Times as “ the best European comic artist ” and included by The Face magazine in its list of the “ 50 artists of the century ”. And that is precisely Miguel Angel Martin.
