Saving Culture
Marco Mandrino

The latest sign that the “righties” do exactly what the “lefties” do comes from the newest brainwave: the forthcoming school curricula will scale back “I Promessi Sposi” and Dante because they are considered too “difficult”.
It is clear that we are now facing a “Caporetto”. Literacy, higher than ever, plainly has nothing to do with Culture and comprehension, which has never been so low. There is no need to lean on any “studies” to know that ignorance is rampant and cognitive ability is at rock bottom.
The institutions, above all in matters of culture, in the hands of a cultural hegemony on its knees before the cult of inclusivity, do nothing but lower the bar so that everyone can clear it, surrendering in the face of this plague.
As Nietzsche foresaw, we are living in the age in which the “strong” must be defended from the “weak”. That is, those who are still able to think, create and imagine something other than the repetition of slogans must somehow be protected from the levelling down that seems to have no bottom.
