Historical Memory
Marco Mandrino

These days mark the anniversary of the dropping of two nuclear bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
When the bombs were dropped, Japan was on its knees, the war was lost and the country was ready to surrender.
What has gone down in history as the "good guys" getting the better of the "bad guys" is the story told by the victors.
The reality is perhaps another: a genocide of defenceless civilians was chosen in order to humiliate a proud enemy that, from then until today, has become a vassal state; to send a warning to possible future enemies and, why not, to test two devices "in the field".
Perhaps it would be useful, today as then, to question the dominant narrative written by subservient historians and philosophers, and to see things for what they are.
