“Stars shine only in a dark night”
Marco Mandrino

Motto of the Decima Mas
As described in my latest book Askesis, we are going through a “dark night”, that is, a twilight period. If the decline we are living through on a planetary scale can be depressing, I would remind everyone that in easy times we human beings are not driven to give the best of ourselves. In another age, in fact, one could afford to float along and maintain a certain humanity without too much effort, kept awake by a vital, effervescent energy all around us. Not today! We are surrounded by ugliness (aesthetic), by lies and by inauthenticity. The undead, by now the majority of the population, no longer believe in anything; the Nothing swallows them up and keeps spreading.
To remain human we are forced to go beyond ourselves (Askesis), to cast our gaze towards the horizon, to keep walking and to keep the light of the spirit alive, through which we become small (or great) comets that streak across the night sky, lighting it up.
