Alien distance
Marco Mandrino

Once the ritual of voting is over, there follows a period much like the one after a football match considered “important”.
Some would like to share their joy or regret, depending on the colours they belong to, at the way things have turned out.
I only perceive a sense of distance, as if I belonged to another planet, as if we were not all living in the same place.
The scent of the bush near my house brings me back to the present; the colours of the spring flowers, reawakened, dazzle me like so much confetti. I see the blue of the sky reflected in the sparkling eyes of the person I love, I hear the sound of the leaves stirred by the wind and the birds busy building their nests.
Comforted by so much beauty, I feel in my heart that I am not the alien.
